The State Institute of Islamic Studies (IAIN) Salatiga was officially upgraded to Universitas Islam Negeri (UIN) Salatiga in June 2022

 

The State Institute of Islamic Studies (IAIN) Salatiga was officially upgraded to Universitas Islam Negeri (UIN) Salatiga in June 2022. The Rector, Prof. Dr. Zakiyuddin Baidhawy, M.Ag, welcomed the decision, stating that the status change was the result of a long and rigorous process that began in 2019, involving multiple administrative stages and inter-ministerial coordination.

Despite the achievement, the Rector emphasized that the new status brings greater institutional challenges. He urged the academic community not to become complacent or overly celebratory, but instead to remain focused on fulfilling the university’s mission.

He highlighted that the transformation marks the beginning of a broader effort to develop UIN Salatiga as a “Green Wasathiyah Campus,” grounded in environmental sustainability, humanitarian values, and the preservation of Salatiga’s identity as a city of tolerance and harmony.

The official status change was enacted through Presidential Regulation (Perpres) No. 88 of 2022, signed by President Joko Widodo on 8 June 2022. In the same regulation, several other State Islamic Higher Education institutions were also granted university status.
